When Tragedy Strikes

The full title of this page, "32422500 When Tragedy Strikes", includes its catalog number, which shows where I have placed it among the many fascinating topics I have arranged in the Table of Contents of this website's amazing Vault!

As for what to do "When Tragedy Strikes", knowing why Yehovaw permits tragedy enables His child to direct his or her power and resources correctly to remedy the cause and therefore the result that is the tragedy.

My online Merriam-Webster dictionary defines "tragedy" in two ways, the first relating to what the word used to mean long ago, such as "a medieval narrative poem or tale typically describing the downfall of a great man" or "a serious drama typically describing a conflict between the protagonist and a superior force (as destiny) and having a sorrowful or disastrous conclusion that elicits pity or terror" and the second relating to how we think of tragedy now - specifically, as "a disastrous event" or "misfortune"!

It is significant to note that the age-old idea of tragedy elicits a sense of hopelessness - a man's falling regardless of his greatness or the superior force that cannot be stopped from its work of terror, while the present idea of tragedy simply regards the event for its destructiveness or looks upon it as one's "fortune" having turned against him.

Neither way of looking at tragedy helps one know what to do about the seeming inevitability of his or her being destroyed when it comes to his or her door! And, if one has been the victim of the tragedy, its severity implies little left by which to do anything about it; if one is dead, he or she can do little about what caused it.

But, if one has simply observed a tragic situation or if it has fallen short of actually taking his or her life, there is, I can assure you, something that still can be done about it.

For the survivor of a tragedy, the first necessary thing is to know what one's power and resources are! Most of us are familiar with the normal things to which we look - whatever influence we have in our community, possessions by which to deal with needs, money in the bank by which to purchase remedies and so forth; but Yehovaw's child knows that he or she has far more than that with which to meet any need; and the need left by a tragedy is, obviously, to recover from it, whatever it may have done in the way of inflicting loss or injury!

A reading of Yehovaw's blessings and cursings (Leviticus 26; Deuteronomy 28) quickly shows anyone who will listen that the difficulties that come in life are responses He gives to what His children do about Him, whether to "hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe to do all His commandments" (Deuteronomy 28:1) or to ignore Him and follow the recommendations of the other voices in the world, which are always there to lead anyone astray who believes that he or she has a better idea than to listen to the One Who is giving him or her the breath of life by which to do his or her own will or His!

When one has become aware of Yehovaw's way and chosen to do the appropriate thing about it, the tragedies in his or her life stop! But so long as he or she continues to suppose that he or she has the better idea, circumstances continue to conspire against him or her, making him or her a fit example of someone up against the dreadful force that cannot be stopped!

One can master the use of the "dominion" (Genesis 1:28) that Yehovaw has given His children "over every living thing that moveth upon the Earth" (Verse 28) by speaking to one's "mountain" (Mark 11:23), asking that it "be ... removed, and be ... cast into the sea" (Verse 23); and, if one

shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith! (Mark 11:23)

But that power or privilege, which is backed by the power of ha Kodesh Ruakh, Yehovaw's Holy Spirit, has nothing to do with the ongoing fact of His blessing or cursing, which again is based upon whether or not one is hearkening to His voice! So, although by the authority of His word through Yehoshua, Who described the use of our dominion (Mark 11:23), He is obligated to move the specific mountain to which His believing child has spoken, if that child has not come to terms with hearkening to Yehovaw "to observe to do all His commandments" (Deuteronomy 28:1), when he or she has by the use of his or her dominion obligated Yehovaw to remove one mountain, two more will simply take its place

until thou be destroyed and until thou perish quickly, because of the wickedness of thy doings, whereby thou hast forsaken Me. (Deuteronomy 28:20)

And for those who insist upon using their dominion to keep themselves ahead of tragedy while dodging the issue of their true obedience to the commandments of Yehovaw's toraw or law, He through Yehoshua had this to say:

21Not every one who saith unto Me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of Heaven but he who doeth the will of My Father Who is in Heaven! 22Many will say, to Me, in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Thy name? and in Thy name have cast out devils? and in Thy name done many wonderful works? 22And then will I profess, unto them, I never knew you: depart from Me, ye who work iniquity! (Matthew 7:21 to 23)

Some highly religious people who with the apostle Paul believe that Yehovaw's toraw or law is a thing of the past go around rebuking the demons they believe are responsible for their problems! But for those who are simply keeping or putting the highest possible value on the commandments of that toraw, Yehovaw wrote, through His prophet:

I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes. (Malachi 3:11)

I am fascinated by the interesting fact that, while the zealots going around rebuking demons continually see them manifesting, those who trust in Yehovaw's shield for the obedient never see any such thing and rejoice for their freedom from such frightful activity.

So my recommendation to you, dear visitor, when tragedy comes your way, is to seek to know, from Yehovaw's voice in your heart as you study His Holy Bible, what it is that differs between His will for you and what you have been doing! His promise to you is that ha Kodesh Ruakh, His "Spirit of truth" (John 16:13), "will guide you into all truth" (Verse 13); and that truth includes what He wants from you each moment of each day of your life! And only by pleasing Him by doing what He wants of you will He eventually say:

Fear not! ... I am thy shield and thy exceedingly great reward! (Genesis 15:1)

Amen! Alleluia!
